Logo Design Challenge INFO & RULES

What is the goal?

The goal for challenge entrants is to design a logo for the Colorado Youth Career Fair along with a banner image utilizing the logo design. A few examples of other education organization logos are at the bottom.


What is the prize?

first-place designers will receive:

  • $200 Amazon Gift Card
  • AIGA Colorado Swag Bag 
  • Recognition at the 2022 Colorado Youth Career Fair
  • Press release for school newsletter
  • Recognition on the Colorado Youth Career Fair Website 
  • Recognition on printed and digital program materials


Who can enter?

The challenge is open to secondary and postsecondary CTE students in design courses. Students may enter as individuals or as teams of up to three (3) people (please only submit one application per team). All team members must be enrolled as students in an educational institution during the semester/term in which they contribute to the design. Entrants are permitted to work in groups; however, only one (1) gift card prize will be awarded for the first place entry.


A primary student contact will be requested and will receive the prize for the team. Each entry must be entirely the original work of the persons identified in the entry. The challenge is not open to any persons employed, past or present, as a professional designer.


Can educators help with their students' projects?

Educators may advise students, but should not take on a significant role in developing the designs.


How do I participate in this challenge? Is it free to enter?

Individuals and teams should submit their entries by clicking on the button at the top of this page. Submissions are due by February 4, 2022. There is no fee to enter the challenge.


SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

  • Completed Submission Form 
    • Student Name, School, Grade, Student Email
    • Teacher Name and Email
    • Short description of the design process and elements 
  • Logo Design file (see requirements below)
  • Banner Image Design file (see requirements below)


DESIGN REQUIREMENTS - LOGO

LOGO DESIGN

  • The design must include the letters “C” “Y” “C” & “F”
  • The design should be square or circular, not to exceed 10” x 10” 
  • Entrants are advised to avoid gradients and half-tones. The logo must be easy to use, handle, resize, and manipulate for all reproduction purposes. It should be visually appealing on both small (as small as 2 cm x 2 cm) and large scales
  • 300 DPI 
  • CMYK Color
  • No additional images or photos with the logo


DESIGN REQUIREMENTS - BANNER

BANNER IMAGE

  • The banner image must include the logo
  • The banner image must not exceed 18” W x 12” H
  • 300 DPI
  • CMYK Color


DESIGN REQUIREMENTS - FORMAT

FILE FORMAT

  • PNG and JPG images will be accepted. No other file type will be accepted. If selected for the winning logo, the final design file will be requested. 
  • You will only upload 2 files. Failure to submit both the logo and banner images will disqualify a submission. 
  • Please be sure your design meets ADA Compliance.
  • For quality reproduction purposes, the winning entry logo and banner must later be submitted in scalable vector graphic format (EPS).


Do you have any tips for my design?

When the selection team reviews designs, they will consider the following:

  • Is the design visually appealing and interesting? 
  • Will it bring a sense of excitement, memory or action?
  • Does it make creative use of line and shape?
  • Does the design relate to the concept of a state-wide career fair?
  • Can you envision this design being used as a major brand?
  • Is the design ADA Compliant and complement the existing CYCF website? 
  • Need inspiration? Visit Adobe for 100 top free templates.
  • Create original work. Plagiarized work will be disqualified. Artwork will be vetted via TinEye.


Who will be judging the designs?

AIGA Colorado

Designs will be reviewed by AIGA Colorado design professionals to ensure they meet design specs. CYCF will select the winner. The winner will be notified February 8, 2022. If selected, there may be final design edits requested on February 8 and edits will need to be completed by February 14, 2022. The winner will be announced on the CYCF website on February 16, 2022.


What's the fine print?

  • Entrants affirm their submissions are their own original work, have not been copied from others or from previous designs, including their own, and do not violate the intellectual property rights of any other person or entity. 
  • Submissions become the sole property of the Colorado Youth Career Fair (CYCF) and may be used for any CYCF purposes, including, but not limited to, display on websites, business cards, letterhead, posters, and other materials.

  • Entrants are permitted to include their own work from submissions in their portfolio.
  • CYCF shall have the right to adapt, edit, modify, or otherwise use the winning submission in part or in its entirety in whatever manner it deems appropriate. 
  • CYCF reserves the right to choose not to use the winning entry as described in these guidelines. 
  • CYCF reserves the right to use any other entry for promotional purposes in the future.
